Have you ever loved a holiday so much that you never wanted it to end? This guest piece on the Aquapac blog is from Ken and his family from Denmark. After a four-week holiday, they decided to do just that. Leaving their old life in Europe behind to build a new one thousands of miles away in the Philippines - a country with 22,000 miles of coastline - the 5th longest in the entire world. Quite the change and quite testing ground for Aquapac waterproof gear. Here's their story, so far.
Moving from Denmark to the Philippines has completely changed our lives. We are a Danish family living in Dumaguete, Negros Oriental, and one of the biggest reasons we moved here was to experience new adventures together, explore beautiful places, and create unforgettable family memories.
Since arriving, we’ve spent much of our free time discovering the incredible surroundings. From tropical beaches and hidden waterfalls to mountain adventures and island hopping, there’s always something new waiting around the corner.
Some of our favourite adventures involve water. Whether we’re swimming in the ocean, snorkelling, exploring waterfalls, or taking boats to neighbouring islands, the Philippines offers endless opportunities.
Recently, we visited the beautiful island of Siquijor, where we explored tropical scenery, visited Cambugahay Falls, and enjoyed an unforgettable family adventure. But travelling here isn’t always as easy as the pictures suggest! Tropical rainstorms can appear unexpectedly, boat rides can get wet, and exploring waterfalls with excited children usually means everyone ends up soaked!
Alongside our adventures, we run our YouTube channel, The Danish Family in the Philippines, where we document our experiences, family life, and travels around the country.
Filming these adventures means bringing phones and equipment into environments where water, sand, and unpredictable weather are part of everyday life. That’s why Aquapac’s waterproof duffel bag and phone cases are such practical additions to our adventures.
Whether we’re heading out on a boat, spending the day at the beach, or exploring waterfalls, having waterproof protection helps us worry less about our belongings and focus more on enjoying the experience.
For us, exploring the Philippines isn’t simply about visiting beautiful destinations. It’s about experiencing different cultures, meeting wonderful people, and spending quality time together as a family.
Of course, not every adventure goes according to plan. We’ve missed ferries, encountered unexpected weather, and found ourselves on journeys that took much longer than expected. But those unexpected moments often become our favourite stories.
We’re excited to continue discovering the Philippines, sharing our experiences through our YouTube channel, and creating memories together.
